Providing essential medicines to individuals who have limited or no access to the National Healthcare System, or those who cannot afford to cover the cost of their prescriptions
In Greece, the cost of essential medicines poses a significant challenge for vulnerable individuals, particularly for those with chronic conditions to afford the medications they require. A 2023 report details that on average, people living in Greece pay about 33% of the cost of their medicines out of their own pockets, which is almost double the OECD average (18.4 %). This reality forces people to forgo necessary medications, resulting in serious health consequences, worsening conditions or even preventable health crises.
Jade seeks to address this through:
Providing essential medicines and health products cost-free
Establishing pop-up medicine clinics that travel to remote or marginalized communities, providing on-site consultations and distributing medicines
Educating beneficiaries on safe medication practices, responsible use of antibiotics and adherence to treatment plans for better symptom control, disease prevention and overall health
Utilizing technological solutions, such as telemedicine and digital prescriptions, to streamline the process of safely prescribing and delivering medicines
Implementing medicine recycling programs to collect unused or unexpired medications and redistribute them to individuals who cannot afford their prescriptions
Collaborating with local pharmacies and the GIVMED network to ensure a sustainable medicine supply chain
